Atlas Copco Wagner wins exclusive contract in Canada.

1999-12-06

Atlas Copco Construction and Mining North America has finalised a deal to become the sole supplier of Scooptrams® and Mine Trucks for Noranda Mining & Metals Group.

The long-term agreement is the first of its kind for Atlas Copco Wagner. It involves building a fleet for the Noranda Group and maintaining this fleet through the years by replacing the vehicles every 12-18 months. Both parties plan for this partnership to last until the reserves of the mines are depleted.

This alliance creates obvious benefits for both parties. The Noranda Group will benefit by only using new equipment, which will provide improved operating efficiencies through increased production and minimal downtime.

In addition, it will allow Atlas Copco Wagner to build a fleet with a unique edge; the vehicles will be half the age of other vehicles on the market. The demand for used and rental equipment is continuing to rise and they will be positioned perfectly to increase their sales in these two categories.

The agreement will include, but is not limited to, the following models the next few years are:The parties plan to incorporate other Atlas Copco equipment over time to expand the agreement to drilling rigs and accessories, compressors and industrial tools.

Noranda Mining and Metals Group is one of the world’s largest producers of zinc and nickel, and significant producer of copper, primary and fabricated aluminium, lead, sliver, gold, sulphuric acid, cobalt and wire rope. The Group operates 23 mines, 16 metallurgical plants and 11 fabricating facilities, primarily in N. America, and markets their products globally. The Atlas Copco vehicles will be used at Gaspe Copper, Heath Steel, Matagami Lake and Brunswick Mining, which are all fully owned subsidiaries of Noranda Mining & Metals.
